March 10, 2009 - $7 Million Award for NYC Train Hit
An Army vet who took a few swigs of rum before stumbling onto the subway tracks and getting mangled by a train has won a jury verdict against NYC Transit for more than $7 million.
James Sanders, 47, had a .03 blood-alcohol level when he fell from the 2-line platform at Winthrop Street in Brooklyn. He lost his right leg and right eye.
"The money doesn't change my condition or anything," he said of Friday's ruling.
The jurors said the train's veteran motorman had enough time to stop.
NYC Transit plans to appeal the decision.
